Hi, I’m Becky, mom of twins, and lover of coffee and creating.
Big Fly Notions is my way of documenting my sewing journey of making clothes for my family to wear for life, not just for dress-up occasions.
One day at the zoo, we were standing in line for the train — a must if your family has a two-year-old son obsessed with things that “go”. In the midst of his anticipation for the almighty choo choo, he was awestruck by a massive fly buzzing around the line. That evening, he wanted to tell me about this “big fly” and it ended up dominating our conversation (minimal talk about the train or exotic animals).
Sometimes I feel like I am going through life waiting for that next big moment or adventure when it is often the ordinary stuff that really grabs my attention. This is the same with my sewing. I love the heirloom quality special occasion dresses but, right now, it’s the well-made garments that my family can wear day that brings the most joy. I imagine waiting in line for a train or sewing a wedding dress could be thrilling experiences but right now my highlight reel is about big flies and well fitting tops, bottoms, and dresses with special details or fabrics and beautiful finishes.
So here I am. Big Fly Notions.
