My model is quite mermaid-obsessed right now. I was recently told “I am going to be a mermaid when I grow up. You can be a mama mermaid when you grow up.” (All my dreams come true!)
We have NOT seen the Little Mermaid yet. Disney is the bane of my existence with their vaulting of movies. We do not own a VHS/DVD player so we have to wait for it to be released from the vault for the obsession to really begin. I had so much fun showing her pictures of Ariel using the fork as a comb. She was entirely perplexed and thought it awesomely silly.
To achieve the mermaid look, I selected the v bottom top, regular neckline, seashell overlay, and mermaid skirt. There is the possibility of cooler weather by the time Halloween rolls around so I love that I can give her a costume she doesn’t have to layer.
I used Knitpop’s amazing double brushed polyester solids to create the white triangle bottom top, purple seashells (sold out, but here is a darker similar option), and green waistband and fins. I used quilting cotton for the main part of the skirt and cotton lycra for the darker green front and back fins.
We topped off the look with this wig from Amazon. She is totally loving that extra touch.
To sweeten the pot, Kelly at SALS also released the Imagine pattern which contains some amazing accessories: fairy wings, a witch hat, fingerless gloves, boot covers, a cape in three lengths (with or without a hood), and a petticoat in two lengths. For a short time, this pattern is being bundled with the Once Upon a Pattern, so is FREE. I made the gloves in testing:
